Getting to Know Claira: Melody Alefteras

Welcome to our weekly corner: Getting to Know. Every week, we’ll take a few minutes to catch up with a Claira team member to help our readers and users get to know them better. You know what Claira does, so let us highlight the people behind the machine and what makes them an expert in workforce development through different questions. Hopefully, this will give you a glimpse into their personalities and even their competencies.

This week, we’re getting to know Melody Alefteras, VP of Engineering at Claira. Melody holds a BA in Computer Science and MS in Management Information Systems, along with other computer science certifications. She strongly believes that being a software developer is a rare privilege and with her competencies, she can make a direct change in her community and improve lives and better the future.

  • What keeps you excited at work?

I’m energized by the unique environment where my team and I are pushed through mutual respect and inclusivity to be and do better every day, and to explore better processes to do tasks. It’s a new adventure every day, and we, as a team, choose excellence as the standard to make sure we hold each other accountable and supported in the ways they need to thrive.

  • Why do you believe in Claira’s vision?

I grew up in a small town, and saw that the modern system of hiring failed everyone but an advantaged few. If you didn't have the education and tools to write a resume that matched what only the select few knew, an entire section of the economy was closed off to you.

I have seen both sides of the coin - there is discrimination in the selection of people based on resumes. Hirers look for irrelevant factors that have nothing to do with how someone gets their job done.

  • What do you believe the future of work will look like in a decade?

We’ll see a shift back to the pre-1950s mindset of hiring, removing bureaucracy and formality from the process. Prior to resumes, you went to look for work locally and were assigned to tasks dynamically based on ability. The future of work is the same. However, it’ll be globalized with AI powering the dynamic assignment of people to tasks without bias. We will dissolve bureaucracy in favor of fast, unbiased solutions.
